In Kosti, a city in south-central Sudan, many displaced individuals, including Aziza and her children, have sought refuge. They endure harsh conditions, lacking proper shelter and protection from extreme weather.
Aziza's family, like many others, fled violence from regions such as Kordofan and Darfur. The ongoing conflict, now over two and a half years, involves significant confrontations between the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF). The RSF has been implicated in civilian attacks in North Darfur, prompting mass displacement towards Kosti, considered relatively stable.
Local authorities report an influx of over 3,500 displaced individuals to Kosti recently, with daily arrivals of 100 to 150 people. While some secure canvas tents, others improvise with available materials until adequate shelters are established.

Over 100,000 individuals have fled el-Fasher and surrounding areas since late October, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). IOM reports over 9.3 million internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sudan, with 55% being children. Almost one-third of displaced households reported insufficient food, forcing members to go without eating for extended periods.
Despite the increasing need, international humanitarian aid is reducing due to funding shortages. This reduction impacts medical support, with significant shortages in staff, medicine, and field hospitals. The displaced, arriving after arduous journeys, face malnutrition and exhaustion, with the impending winter adding to their challenges.
Further assistance and resources are urgently required to address the critical needs of the displaced population in Kosti and beyond.
