Overview of Recent Drone Attack in Sudan

A drone attack by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) targeted the town of Dilling in South Kordofan, Sudan, resulting in numerous casualties. The attack affected multiple areas, including the headquarters of the Sudanese army's 54th Brigade and the central market.

Dilling is strategically located between Kadugli, the besieged state capital, and el-Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan province. The RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) have been engaged in a civil war since April 2023, leading to significant loss of life and displacement.

Following the lifting of a nearly two-year siege on Dilling by the SAF, the town has suffered from a series of drone attacks. Military sources indicate that the RSF is attempting to re-establish a blockade, although the SAF maintains control over the area.

The Sudan Doctors Network has called for the establishment of a humanitarian corridor to provide essential supplies, including food and medicine. The local population is facing severe shortages of health services and critical supplies, particularly intravenous fluids.

Over 65,000 individuals have fled the Kordofan region since October, contributing to what the United Nations describes as the world's largest displacement and hunger crisis. Approximately 14 million people have been displaced by the conflict, both internally and across borders.

The International Criminal Court has launched an investigation into alleged war crimes committed by both the RSF and SAF. Meanwhile, refugees continue to seek safety in neighboring Chad, where resources are under strain due to declining humanitarian funding.
