A drone strike originating from Sudan resulted in the death of 17 individuals in Chad , as reported by the Chadian authorities. The Chadian government has announced intentions to respond to any further incursions as the ongoing civil war in Sudan continues.

The attack occurred in the border town of Tine, despite prior warnings and the closure of the border. Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Deby convened a meeting of the defense and security council, directing military forces to prepare for potential retaliatory actions. The Chadian government has increased its security presence along the border and indicated possible operations on Sudanese territory.

The conflict in Sudan, involving its military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has led to significant casualties and displacement since April 2023. The United Nations reports that millions have been displaced, with nearly one million people fleeing to Chad. The lengthy and difficult-to-control border between Chad and Sudan exacerbates security challenges.

Drones have emerged as a significant component in the conflict, utilized by both the Sudanese military and the RSF. The Sudanese army benefits from Iranian-made drones and support from Turkey and Russia. Meanwhile, the RSF, lacking an air force, reportedly receives equipment through supply routes involving Chad and other regions, with the United Arab Emirates allegedly providing support, an assertion denied by Abu Dhabi.

In early 2026, data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data project recorded 198 drone strikes, with 52 incidents resulting in civilian casualties and a total of 478 fatalities.
