In October, significant displacement occurred in el-Fasher, North Darfur, as the city was seized by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). Thousands of residents fled, leaving behind homes and possessions. The situation has resulted in severe humanitarian challenges.
The International Organization for Migration reported that over 120,000 people fled the RSF's capture of el-Fasher. Many of these individuals were already internally displaced persons (IDPs) seeking refuge in the city. The World Food Programme estimates that between 70,000 and 100,000 remain trapped within el-Fasher.
The Tawila refugee camp, located approximately 50 km west of el-Fasher, has seen a massive influx of displaced individuals, further straining its limited resources. The camp now accommodates an estimated 1.4 million displaced persons.
Human Rights Violations and War Crimes
The United Nations and rights organizations have documented mass atrocities following the RSF's capture of el-Fasher, including targeted attacks on non-Arab populations. The International Criminal Court has accused the RSF of committing war crimes and crimes against humanity during the city's capture.

Satellite imagery analyzed by Yale's Humanitarian Research Lab indicates systematic efforts to conceal evidence of mass killings. Additionally, reports suggest the presence of mass graves and secret detention centers in the area.
Living Conditions and Humanitarian Aid
The Tawila camp faces significant challenges, including shortages of food, medicine, and safe drinking water. The Sudan Doctors Network has highlighted the severe shortages of medical supplies and suitable nutrition for children in the camp.
Many displaced individuals endure harsh living conditions, with limited shelter and basic necessities. Aid deliveries have been infrequent, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis.
The situation in North Darfur remains critical, with ongoing efforts needed to address the humanitarian needs of the affected populations.
