The World Food Programme (WFP) reports a significant humanitarian crisis in Sudan, with millions facing acute food insecurity due to ongoing conflict. The WFP is currently aiding 5 million individuals, including 2 million in remote areas, though this assistance is deemed insufficient.

According to WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau, approximately 20 million people are acutely food insecure, with 6 million at risk of starvation. Efforts to deliver aid have been hindered by conflict, particularly in violence-affected regions such as el-Fasher and Babnusa, where access remains challenging.

The Kordofan region experiences escalating violence between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The United Nations has expressed concern about potential mass atrocities in the area.

Recent reports indicate that an RSF attack in South Kordofan's Kalogi locality resulted in at least 116 fatalities, including 46 children. This incident, described as a "full-fledged massacre," involved missile strikes on a pre-school and subsequent attacks on those providing aid.

Instances of sexual violence have been documented, with the Sudan Doctors Network reporting 19 cases of rape by RSF forces in the al-Afad camp. The organization condemns these actions as violations of international law.

Impact on Infrastructure and Aid Delivery

Conflict has disrupted critical infrastructure, including power supplies in al-Damazin, due to shelling. The RSF has accused Sudan’s military of targeting the Adre border crossing with Chad, a key route for humanitarian aid.

The United Nations estimates that violence in Sudan has displaced 9 million people, with over 30 million requiring assistance.
