On Wed, Oct 18, 2023, a helicopter crash occurred on Mount Kilimanjaro, resulting in the death of five individuals. The accident took place on one of the popular tourist climbing routes during a rescue mission aimed at evacuating patients from the mountain.
The crash resulted in the deaths of two foreign nationals who were part of a medical evacuation. Also deceased were a local doctor, a tour guide, and the pilot. The helicopter was reportedly carrying individuals from the Czech Republic and Zimbabwe.
The crash happened between the Barafu Camp and Kibo Summit at an altitude exceeding 4,000 meters (13,100 feet).
