Rubio acknowledges setbacks in DRC-Rwanda deal, urges compliance

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has addressed the recent developments regarding the peace agreement between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Rwanda. Despite the inclusion of this conflict on a list of wars reportedly ended by President Donald Trump, hostilities continue.

Rubio confirmed ongoing engagement by administration officials and noted that bipartisan efforts are underway. Both Republican and Democratic members of Congress have been encouraged to communicate with leaders involved, highlighting a unified U.S. interest in achieving peace.

Shortly after the peace agreement was signed, Rwanda-backed M23 rebels captured the town of Uvira in South Kivu province. This action prompted a strong response from Washington. Although the rebels have since retreated from Uvira, they maintain control over two other provincial capitals in eastern Congo.
