Russia and Morocco pledge to deepen cooperation during foreign ministers meeting

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met with Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita in Moscow on Thursday, for bilateral discussions.

The two officials signed a Memorandum of Understanding to establish a joint committee aimed at enhancing the strategic partnership between Russia and Morocco, as confirmed by the Russian foreign ministry.

The ministers discussed the situation in Gaza, expressing approval of the ongoing implementation of the first phase of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas. Lavrov acknowledged Morocco's significant role in promoting peaceful resolutions to the Palestinian issue, highlighting the contributions of His Majesty King Mohammed VI as head of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation's Jerusalem Committee.

Bourita noted a mutual understanding between both countries regarding current Middle Eastern developments. He also emphasized appreciation for efforts to establish a ceasefire and expressed hope for a political solution to the Palestinian issue.

The Western Sahara dispute was also on the agenda. Lavrov stated that any solution acceptable to all involved parties would be satisfactory for Russia, which includes consideration of Morocco's autonomy plan.
