According to a statement from the armed forces’ public relations office, the incident occurred at approximately 9 a.m. at the mouth of the Senegal River in the north. Three sailors remain unaccounted for.
The statement further detailed that the vessel was on a liaison mission and likely encountered severe waves following a deterioration in weather conditions. The military has mobilized air, sea, and land resources to aid in the search for the missing personnel.
