Despite the signing, hostilities have persisted. Alexia Kasereka, a motorcycle taxi driver, emphasized the need for the treaty to result in lasting peace, highlighting the enduring fatigue from continuous warfare in Goma and North Kivu.

According to UN experts, approximately 3,000 to 4,000 Rwandan government forces are currently stationed in eastern Congo, operating alongside the M23.
