Authorities responded by deploying snow crews to clear affected roads and issued safety warnings to drivers navigating the challenging conditions.

Recent weather patterns in Morocco have become increasingly unpredictable, attributed to climate change. The region has experienced several years of drought, which has hardened soils, increasing susceptibility to flooding in mountains, deserts, and plains.
Since the beginning of December, Morocco has received substantial rainfall. While this has contributed to replenishing dams and recharging groundwater, it has also resulted in hazardous flash flooding, including an incident in Safi that resulted in 37 fatalities.
In the previous year, flooding in typically arid mountain and desert regions claimed nearly two dozen lives in Morocco and Algeria.
