South Africa’s finance minister, Enoch Godongwana, has announced that the nation will temporarily step back from its G20 engagements during the United States presidency. This decision was disclosed at the World Economic Forum in Davos on Thursday, described as a "temporary setback."
The United States holds significant influence over the G20 accreditation process, which affects participation in events. Currently, South Africa will not receive accreditation for US-hosted G20 events, impacting its ability to attend.

South Africa is scheduled to host the World Economic Forum's special Africa summit in April of the following year.
