General Lul Ruai Koang, spokesperson for the South Sudan People’s Defence Forces (SSPDF), stated from the capital Juba that "Akobo is safe, the surrounding areas are safe."
Before the military action, an evacuation order was issued for civilians, United Nations agencies, and aid workers. As a result, approximately 200,000 individuals have fled to neighboring Ethiopia.
