Egypt, a record winner of the Africa Cup of Nations, will face South Africa in the group stage of the 2025 tournament. Both teams are aiming to advance to the knockout rounds and are currently tied on points in Group B.
In their opening match, Egypt defeated Zimbabwe with a late goal from Mohamed Salah, following an equalizer by Omar Marmoush after Prince Dube scored for Zimbabwe.
South Africa secured a 2-1 victory against Angola. Lyle Foster's late goal was decisive after Oswin Appollis had initially given them the lead. Angola equalized before halftime.
Both Egypt and South Africa have three points each. A victory for either team in their upcoming match will secure a place in the knockout stages. Zimbabwe and Angola remain in contention but face elimination risks.

Egypt has won the Africa Cup of Nations seven times, with their last victory in 2010. South Africa won once, in 1996. The most notable match between the two was in the 1998 AFCON final, where Egypt triumphed over South Africa.
Coach Hossam Hassan may have to adjust for a minor injury to Mohamed Hamdi, but no other changes are expected.
Coach Hugo Broos is expected to retain the squad from their previous win, with potential adjustments on the wing.
