The Democratic Republic of the Congo exited the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025 after an extra-time loss to Algeria. Despite the defeat, the team's supporter, Michel Nkuka Mboladinga, left a notable impression on football fans and players.

Michel Nkuka Mboladinga became recognized for his tribute to Patrice Lumumba, standing motionless with his right arm raised during matches. This act mirrored a memorial statue of Lumumba located in Kinshasa, DR Congo. Following the team's defeat by Algeria, Mboladinga concluded his tribute by falling back into the crowd.

Algerian player Mohamed Amoura imitated Mboladinga's pose during a celebration, which led to criticism on social media. Amoura later issued an apology, expressing his respect for DR Congo and its historical figures. Additionally, the Algerian Football Association invited Mboladinga to meet the team, where he received a personalized team shirt.

DR Congo, currently ranked 56th in FIFA’s world rankings, aims to qualify for the World Cup 2026. They will compete in the inter-confederation playoff final on March 31.
