Egypt secured qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 following a 3-0 victory over Djibouti in Casablanca, thereby leading Group A with one match remaining. Mohamed Salah contributed two goals, while Ibrahim Adel added another, marking Egypt as the third African nation to qualify for the tournament, alongside Morocco and Tunisia.

Egypt has previously participated in three World Cup tournaments but did not qualify for the 2022 edition in Qatar.

Ghana achieved a 5-0 win over the Central African Republic in Meknes. Thomas Partey, Mohammed Salisu, Alexander Djiku, captain Jordan Ayew, and Kamaldeen Sulemana were the scorers. Ghana requires one point from their final match against Comoros to qualify.

Cape Verde drew 3-3 with Libya in Tripoli. They are leading Group D and will secure first place if they defeat Eswatini in Praia. Cape Verde stands two points ahead of Cameroon, who won 2-0 against Mauritius.

Cameroon, needing victory in their remaining matches, will play Angola in Yaounde. Success is required to maintain hopes of automatic qualification. If Cape Verde finishes first, Cameroon could aim to be among the top four runners-up to qualify for the playoffs in November.

The winners of the African mini-tournament, consisting of single-match semifinals and a final, will advance to the inter-continental playoffs in March. The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from June 11 to July 19, co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
