Egypt seeks a record-extending eighth Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title, with Mohamed Salah leading the team against Senegal in the semifinals. Senegal, ranked 19th globally, aims for their second championship title after winning AFCON 2021.

Senegal topped Group D, remaining unbeaten with two wins and one draw. They defeated Sudan 3-1 in the round of 16 and narrowly overcame Mali 1-0 in the quarterfinals.

Egypt completed the group stage at the top of Group B, also with seven points. They advanced by defeating Benin 3-1 in the round of 16 and overcame Ivory Coast 3-2 in the quarterfinals.

The winner of the semifinal will compete against either Nigeria or Morocco in the AFCON final.
