Nigeria achieved a 2-1 victory over Tanzania in their opening Africa Cup of Nations match held in Fez, Morocco. Despite numerous scoring opportunities, the team, coached by Eric Chelle, was unable to capitalize further following their absence from the 2026 World Cup.
Semi Ajayi opened the scoring for Nigeria in the first half. Charles M’Mombwa equalized for Tanzania shortly after half-time. Ademola Lookman secured the win for Nigeria with a decisive goal soon after the equalizer.
