Student murdered in Owo Nigerian town

A fresh student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic in the southwestern Nigerian state of Ondo was killed by unknown assailants in the town of Owo in February 2025.

The victim, identified only as Oluwaseun, was a first-year student in the Department of Mass Communication at the state-owned institution, also known as RUGIPO. He was attacked on Opomulero Street in the historic town, according to sources cited by Vanguard Nigeria.

Owo, located in Ondo State, is an ancient Yoruba settlement that serves as a regional centre with a long history of traditional governance. The polytechnic, one of several higher education institutions in the state, draws students from across Nigeria for technical and vocational courses.

Local authorities have not released an official statement on the motive or any arrests linked to the killing.
