A United Nations report released on Thursday, details that the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) were responsible for the deaths of at least 1,000 civilians during an attack on the Zamzam refugee camp in Sudan's Darfur region in April 2025.
The assault was part of the RSF's siege on el-Fasher, the provincial capital of North Darfur state. The attack resulted in numerous instances of summary executions and documented cases of sexual violence, including rape.

Zamzam refugee camp, which was the largest displacement camp in Sudan, housed more than 500,000 people prior to the attack. According to the UN report, the RSF had blocked the entry of food and other essential goods to the camp for several months leading up to the incident.
