On Mon, Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi addressed parliament, alleging that Rwanda violated a ceasefire agreement one day after its signing. The agreement was brokered by the United States in June and was finalized in Washington last week.
The eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), rich in minerals, has been the site of contention involving numerous armed groups. The M23 rebel group, prominently backed by Rwanda, is one of the key players in the region.

President Tshisekedi stated that Rwandan Defense Forces conducted and supported attacks using heavy weapons from Bugarama, Rwanda. These actions allegedly targeted the localities of Kaziba, Katogota, and Lubarika in South Kivu, causing significant human and material damage, thereby breaching the ceasefire.
As a result of intensified fighting over the weekend, thousands of residents in South Kivu were displaced. Accusations of ceasefire violations have been exchanged between M23 rebels and Congolese forces, with UN experts indicating the involvement of approximately 4,000 Rwandan troops in support of the rebels.
