The Ahmed Bey Palace in Tunisia recently inaugurated the Italianisances exhibition, which highlights the Italian influence on Tunisian architecture. This exhibition initially opened in La Marsa before relocating to Tunis.
The exhibition aims to showcase the architectural and decorative influences of the Italian community in Tunisia from the 16th to the 20th century, as explained by architect Houssam Eddine Othmani. The geographical proximity and historical connections between Tunisia and Italy are significant factors in this influence.
Built in 1847, Ahmed Bey Palace itself serves as an example of Italian architectural influence. The exhibition explores various architectural features, including those found in mosques, beylical palaces, and rural homes in the Medjerda valley.

Organized by the Nous Tous association, the Italianisances exhibition is both cultural and educational, aiming to preserve Tunisian heritage. The exhibition will be on display at the National School of Architecture and Urbanism in Tunis until Wed, Oct 18, 2023.
