Rached Ghannouchi, the 84-year-old leader of the Tunisian opposition party Ennahdha, has had his prison sentence extended from 14 years to over 40 years. This follows a court decision to uphold and extend the sentences of several political figures accused of conspiring against President Kais Saied.
Ghannouchi has opted not to appeal, citing concerns about the fairness of the trial and alleging political motives behind the charges.
