Feature Film "Promised Sky" Competes at Marrakech International Film Festival

The Tunisian film Promised Sky is participating in the competition for the Golden Star at the Marrakech International Film Festival in Morocco. This film, which previously received the "Un Certain Regard" prize at the Cannes Festival, explores the lives of three Ivorian women living in Tunis.

Director Erige Sehiri explains her intent to capture a transitional phase in life, reflecting the journey between sub-Saharan Africa and Europe. The film's title, Promised Sky , symbolizes various promises made, including those by governments to citizens, mothers to children, and religious leaders to their congregations.

French-Senegalese actor Aïssa Maïga portrays a Muslim woman who has assumed the role of a pastor in an underground evangelical church in Tunis. Her character's narrative is marked by the constant threat of police raids.

The Marrakech Festival awards ceremony is scheduled for Sat, Dec 6, 2024. Promised Sky is also part of the official competition at the Carthage Film Days in Tunis and is set for a theatrical release in Tunisia following the festival.
