Tunisia's President Kais Saied has extended the state of emergency for an additional 11 months, until Sun, Dec 31, 2023.
The emergency law grants authorities exceptional powers, including:
Conducting home arrests Banning official meetings Imposing curfews Censoring the media Prohibiting assemblies without judicial consent

The state of emergency was initially declared on Tue, Nov 24, 2015, following a bombing incident targeting a bus with presidential guards, resulting in the deaths of 12 agents.
This state of emergency has been continuously maintained through successive extensions.
Amid growing public dissatisfaction, protests occurred in Tunis earlier this month. President Saied's actions, including the suspension of parliament and expansion of executive powers in July 2021, have been justified by him as necessary measures to address ongoing instability and corruption.
