On Tuesday, a private jet crashed in Turkey, resulting in the death of Libya’s military chief, Gen. Muhammad Ali Ahmad al-Haddad, along with four other officers and three crew members. The crash occurred shortly after the jet departed from Ankara, with the wreckage located near the village of Kesikkavak in Haymana, approximately 70 kilometers south of the capital.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced that an investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the crash. Search teams have recovered the cockpit voice and flight data recorders, though the recovery of the victims' remains is ongoing. Libyan officials have suggested a technical malfunction as the cause of the incident.
The Libyan delegation, which included Gen. al-Haddad, was returning to Tripoli after conducting defense talks in Ankara aimed at enhancing military cooperation between Libya and Turkey. A team of 22 individuals, including five family members, has arrived from Libya to aid in the investigation.
