On Sat, the prominent Ugandan opposition candidate Bobi Wine reported an incident involving security forces while campaigning in the northern region of the country. According to posts made on social network X, Wine, along with his aides and supporters, was allegedly attacked.
The reported attack occurred in the city of Gulu, where Wine claimed that security personnel, some of whom were not in uniform, vandalized the campaign's sound system. Additionally, Wine alleged that earlier in the week, military forces vandalized his campaign office in Gulu.
Some individuals involved in the incident reportedly required hospitalization. This event signifies an escalation in violence ahead of Uganda's presidential election, scheduled for Thu, Jan 15, 2026.
