Dialogue Initiatives to Resolve Conflict in Sudan
On Fri, President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda welcomed Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), to State House in Entebbe. The discussions were centered on resolving the ongoing conflict in Sudan and enhancing regional stability.
The conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which commenced nearly three years ago, has escalated into a significant humanitarian crisis.
Museveni underscored the importance of achieving sustainable peace through inclusive dialogue rather than military means. He advocated for African-led solutions to address African challenges.

The African Union has appointed Museveni to lead a committee aimed at facilitating direct negotiations between Dagalo and Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan.
Dagalo recognized the worsening humanitarian and institutional crises in Sudan and emphasized the necessity for a peaceful resolution.
Public Engagement and Ceasefire Attempts
This meeting marked Dagalo’s first public international engagement since June 2025. Despite numerous ceasefire efforts, the conflict persists. Army chief al-Burhan recently stated he would not agree to a humanitarian truce until the RSF withdraws from occupied cities and military sites.
