Uganda Urged to Reassess Anti-Corruption Strategy
As the continent observed Anti-Corruption Day, officials and observers called on Uganda to strengthen implementation of its existing institutions to make meaningful progress against graft.
Uganda needs to reconsider its approach to tackling corruption if the country is to achieve tangible results, according to assessments shared as Africa marked the annual anti-corruption observance.
The call comes despite the existence of dedicated institutions established to combat the problem. Multiple previous initiatives have failed to deliver significant reductions in corrupt practices, according to the assessment reported by The Independent UG.
Anti-Corruption Day is observed across the continent each year to highlight efforts to curb graft and promote accountability in public and private sectors. In Uganda, the occasion served as a moment to evaluate the effectiveness of current measures rather than to announce new ones.
The country has invested in building formal bodies tasked with investigating and prosecuting corruption cases. However, the persistence of the problem suggests that structural or operational shortcomings continue to limit their impact.
