Ugandan Bank Donates Maternal Health Equipment to Rural Hospital

Stanbic Bank Uganda has donated maternal health equipment to a public health facility in western Uganda, aiming to ease critical gaps in maternity care.

The handover of supplies worth 44 million shillings to Rukoki Health Centre IV took place in Kasese District last year. The equipment is expected to resolve nearly 90 percent of the challenges previously faced by the centre’s maternity ward, according to The Independent UG.

Kasese District lies in the Rwenzori region of Uganda, an area where public health facilities often struggle with limited budgets and high patient volumes. Rukoki Health Centre IV serves as a referral point for maternal services in the surrounding rural communities.

Dr. Edward Wefula, the facility’s in-charge, spoke at the handover ceremony and welcomed the donation. He noted that the new equipment would significantly improve the centre’s ability to provide safer deliveries and better postnatal care.

Maternal health remains a priority across Uganda, where many district-level facilities lack consistent access to essential tools such as delivery beds, monitors and emergency kits. Donations from the private sector have become an important supplement to government funding in these settings.

Stanbic Bank Uganda has supported various community health initiatives in the past, though specific details of earlier projects were not disclosed in the report. The bank’s contribution to Rukoki forms part of broader corporate efforts to strengthen local health infrastructure.

Health officials in Kasese will now integrate the donated items into daily operations. The development is expected to reduce pressure on the maternity ward and improve outcomes for mothers and newborns in the district.
