Regulation Update: Changes to UK Study Visa Eligibility
As of Tue, Oct 24, 2023, nationals from Cameroon, Sudan, Myanmar, and Afghanistan will no longer be eligible for UK study visas. This decision was announced by the British government as part of a broader effort to address concerns related to the visa system.
Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood stated that there have been instances of the visa system being utilized by students from these countries to apply for asylum upon their arrival in the UK. The government aims to ensure that the visa system is not misused, while still providing refuge to legitimate asylum seekers.

Since 2021, approximately 135,000 asylum seekers have entered the UK through legal channels. During this period, there has been a significant increase of over 470 percent in visa applications from these four countries. Despite efforts to reduce the number of student-related asylum claims, such claims constitute 13 percent of the total asylum applications.
