UN Condemns Drone Attack on Sudanese Logistics Base
The United Nations has condemned a recent drone attack targeting its logistics base in Kadugli, located in Sudan's central Kordofan region. This incident resulted in the fatalities and injuries of members of the Bangladeshi Peacekeeping contingent. According to a statement by UN Secretary-General António Guterres, attacks against UN peacekeepers are unjustifiable and may constitute war crimes. He emphasized the obligation of all parties in the conflict to protect UN personnel and civilians and called for accountability.
The drone strike on Saturday resulted in the deaths of six peacekeepers, with eight others wounded. All victims were Bangladeshi nationals serving in the U.N. Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA). The Sudanese military attributed the attack to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group engaged in conflict with the army for control over the country for over two years. No immediate response was received from the RSF. The military released a video showing dense smoke over the UN facility, attributing it to the RSF.

The conflict has caused extensive urban destruction and has been marked by war crimes, including mass rape and ethnically motivated killings, particularly in Darfur. The crisis has led to a severe humanitarian situation, pushing some regions into famine.
