UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk Visits Sudan
On his initial visit since November 2022, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Türk, is touring Sudan to engage with families displaced by the ongoing conflict in the region.
The conflict, primarily between rival military forces, continues to impact large portions of Sudan, especially in the western regions of Darfur and Kordofan. This has resulted in the displacement of millions of individuals.
During his visit, Türk expressed deep concern over the accounts provided by survivors, particularly women and girls who have experienced sexual violence. He met with nine survivors who shared their traumatic experiences, emphasizing the severe impact on their mental and emotional well-being.

Survivors reported incidents of gang rape while attempting to escape violence in the city of El-Fasher, with male relatives being killed in their presence.
