Resale Ticket Prices for FIFA World Cup 2024

Ticket prices for the upcoming FIFA World Cup have significantly increased on resale platforms ahead of the event scheduled for Jul, 2024. The initial match between Mexico and South Africa has tickets priced at $5,324, compared to the original cost of $895.

For the final match on Jul 19, 2024, in East Rutherford, New Jersey, a three-seat category is priced at $143,750, which is 41 times higher than the original price of $3,450.

The lowest ticket price for the final listed on resale platforms is $9,775. It is important to note that the resale market operates without regulation in the United States and Canada. In contrast, in Mexico, reselling tickets above face value is prohibited when purchased locally using the Mexican currency.

The high demand for the event, taking place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico, has prompted FIFA to consider a draw for ticket allocation. FIFA President Gianni Infantino indicated that prices on resale platforms could further increase.

Infantino stated that despite FIFA's history of selling 50 million tickets over nearly 100 years, the current demand is unprecedented, likening it to requests for "1,000 years of World Cups at once."

This scenario may lead to numerous fans resorting to resale sites, where tickets are sold at prices much higher than their face value.

On FIFA's official resale marketplace, tickets for the final are listed up to $230,000. While FIFA does not directly resell tickets or set these prices, they receive a 30% commission from any resale transaction.

FIFA's recent ticket release, priced between $140 and $8,680, has faced public criticism. However, FIFA defends its pricing, stating it aligns with market practices for major entertainment and sporting events.
