Zimbabwe Launches Domestic Tourism Campaign
The southern African nation kicked off an initiative promoting local heritage sites to its own citizens in an effort to boost the domestic tourism sector.

Zimbabwe on Friday in late March formally launched a new domestic tourism campaign named “Nhaka Yedu, Ilifa Lethu, Our Heritage” at Baradzanwa Cultural Village.
The event marked the debut of the initiative, which aims to encourage Zimbabweans to explore their own country’s attractions. Officials presented the drive as the first of its kind in the nation, highlighting cultural and heritage sites that form part of the country’s identity.
Zimbabwe has long relied on international visitors for much of its tourism revenue. The new campaign seeks to reduce that dependence by stimulating travel within the country, especially as the economy continues to face challenges.
The launch took place at an established cultural venue chosen to showcase the type of destination the programme hopes to promote. Attendees witnessed traditional performances and displays that illustrated the heritage themes at the heart of the drive.

Domestic tourism has grown in importance across several African nations as governments look for ways to support local economies and preserve cultural knowledge. In Zimbabwe the initiative carries the message that national heritage belongs to all citizens and should be experienced firsthand.
The campaign title reflects the country’s three main languages — Shona, Ndebele and English — underscoring an inclusive approach intended to reach the widest possible audience inside Zimbabwe.
No further details on planned activities or specific targets for visitor numbers were disclosed at the launch. The programme will now move into its implementation phase with the aim of increasing awareness and visitation to lesser-known heritage locations.
