MTN Nigeria Subscribers Face Service Disruption in Three States

Subscribers of MTN Nigeria in selected areas of three northern states experienced temporary service disruption on 23 August 2025 while the company carried out scheduled maintenance on its network.

The operator undertook the work to repair a damaged fibre route, which is a critical part of its infrastructure serving those regions. Customers were notified in advance of the planned interruption.

The affected locations lie within Adamawa, Borno, and Kano states. These areas have faced previous infrastructure challenges linked to both environmental factors and security incidents in the wider northeast and northern regions.

Network maintenance of this kind forms part of routine efforts by major telecom providers in Nigeria to sustain service quality. Fibre optic cables remain vulnerable to cuts from construction, flooding or other physical damage, requiring prompt repairs.

MTN Nigeria is one of the largest mobile operators in the country, serving millions of users across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Reliable connectivity holds particular importance in Adamawa, Borno and Kano, where mobile services support commerce, education and communication in both urban centres and rural communities.

The company has not released details on the precise duration of the outage or the exact local government areas impacted beyond the three states. Such maintenance is usually completed within hours to minimise inconvenience to users.
