Zimbabwe Power Company adds 1619MW to national grid

Zimbabwe's electricity supply has improved after the Zimbabwe Power Company fed 1 619 megawatts into the national grid.

Zimbabwe has faced chronic power shortages for years, largely because of low water levels at the Kariba Dam, its main source of hydroelectricity, and aging infrastructure at other plants. The country often imports power from neighbours to bridge the gap.
The addition of this substantial volume of electricity marks a notable increase in domestic generation. It allows the national utility, ZESA, to reduce the duration and frequency of blackouts that had become routine.
