Lecturers seek relocation pay after Lagos education merger
Academic staff at the Lagos State University of Education in Ijanikin have urged university authorities to provide relocation allowances and other benefits following the merger of two former colleges.
Members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities at the Lagos State University of Education have appealed to the institution's management to settle relocation allowances and related entitlements created by a recent institutional merger.
The union represents lecturers at the Ijanikin campus in Lagos. Its members report spending up to nine hours daily commuting between Ijanikin and Epe as a direct consequence of the integration of two former colleges of education into the new university structure.
The merger combined institutions that had operated separately, requiring many academic staff to adjust their work locations. According to Vanguard Nigeria, the union has formally requested that outstanding payments be disbursed to compensate for the disruption and additional travel demands.
Lagos State, Nigeria's commercial capital, maintains a large public education system. The creation of the Lagos State University of Education formed part of efforts to reorganise teacher training and higher education within the state.
