Uganda's finance ministry has commended a new catfish processing facility as a model for the government's long-term economic transformation strategy.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development officially opened the factory operated by Masheda Foods in Mpigi. He described the project as aligning with national ambitions to scale up the economy significantly.
According to The Independent UG, the launch event underscored the role of agro-processing ventures in driving broader development goals. Officials positioned the facility as evidence that targeted investments in food production can contribute to sustained growth.
The ministry has promoted the idea of achieving tenfold expansion in key sectors. This approach aims to shift Uganda from its current economic base toward higher productivity and value addition, particularly in agriculture and related industries.
