Vivo Energy Uganda honours drivers in safety campaign
The company behind Shell fuels in Uganda has recognised another group of professional drivers as part of its continuing initiative to highlight their contribution to the national economy.

Vivo Energy Uganda has recognised 30 more drivers under its “Omunene W’ekkubo” campaign, marking the sixth week of the ongoing initiative.
The event forms part of a broader effort by the company, which distributes Shell-branded fuels and lubricants across Uganda, to acknowledge the role professional drivers play in moving goods and people around the east African nation. Uganda’s economy relies heavily on road transport, with drivers forming a critical link between rural producers, urban markets and neighbouring countries.
The campaign, whose name translates roughly as recognising those who command the road, seeks to promote road safety and professional standards among drivers. According to The Independent UG, the latest group was celebrated in Kampala, though further details of the ceremony were not disclosed.
Vivo Energy Uganda operates in a competitive fuel market where Shell stations are a familiar sight along major highways and in urban centres. The company has previously used similar recognition programmes to build brand loyalty among commercial drivers, who often operate long-haul trucks and public transport vehicles.

Road safety remains a significant concern in Uganda, where traffic accidents frequently make headlines. Initiatives that engage directly with drivers are seen by industry observers as one way to encourage better practices on congested and sometimes poorly maintained roads.
The latest celebration is not the first under the campaign, which has been running for several weeks. It continues to focus on drivers as essential contributors to Uganda’s connectivity rather than simply as customers of fuel products.
Industry sources suggest such corporate social responsibility efforts can help improve the public image of fuel companies while addressing practical challenges faced by the transport sector. However, their long-term impact on overall road safety statistics has yet to be independently measured.
